Managing humanitarian projects effectively is challenging.  Implementing effective and positively impactful responses to complex emergencies requires exceptional project management skills. The ability to deliver quality outputs on time, under extreme circumstances, is crucial to any humanitarian response.  Our training shares with you key project management skills required by humanitarian workers and will give you an understanding of project management theories and techniques and equip you with tools and techniques crucial for managing projects successfully in complex environments.

Our interactive training gives you real experience at implementing best practice in a safe environment where participants and trainers can share experiences in group exercises, focused discussions, and bilateral mentoring before, during, and after the course.

Our humanitarian and pre-deployment training also explores the role of international humanitarian actors in a variety of complex settings, including the increasingly prevalent urban humanitarian response.  We discuss the importance of building constructive relationships with national and municipal authorities as well as private sector service suppliers, and to work within existing legislation and long-term plans for the cities, during a humanitarian response.  We also discuss how to develop these relationships whilst maintaining independence and your ability to respond based on need.

In an exciting and innovative manner, we examine real humanitarian contexts, the challenges of adhering to humanitarian principles in some settings, the international humanitarian system, accountability to affected populations, international law, individual responsibility, the potential impacts and dilemmas of humanitarian responses and how all actors can support a positively impactful humanitarian response.

It is essential for all humanitarian personnel to be able to contribute to the design and production of high-quality project proposals and reports.  We will work with you to identify the aspects that make proposals effective and successful, and we will share with you best practices in proposal writing and reporting.

Of course, you will also learn and practice the skills needed to operate safely in high-risk areas. In 2019 alone, Humanitarian Advisors have worked in Yemen, Syria, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Colombia, Uganda, and Kyrgyzstan – we not only understand complex environments, we live within them. In partnership with NGOs, universities, and international organisations, we remain committed to making safe and secure work possible in high-risk areas.  We will equip you with increased knowledge and confidence to travel and work in complex environments, and the ability to handle a crisis.  Regular one-on-one feedback is provided to you to enhance your personal learning in a safe and constructive learning environment. After completion of the course, you will be able to handle extreme situations with self-confidence.
