The tropical storm in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a Cyclonic Storm over the weekend. Currently located in the center of the Bay of Bengal, the storm is predicted to head towards Bangladesh and India whilst intensifying into a Tropical Cyclone within the next 24 hours. The cyclone is expected to reach land on 20 May. Very rough seas, strong winds, storm surges, and heavy rains are expected. Residents in affected areas of Bangladesh and India should seek safety in cyclone shelters and avoid coastal areas.
In Bangladesh, Amphan is predicted to affect Khulna, Bagerhat, Barisal, Patuakhali, Barguna, Sathkhira, Noakhali, Chittagong and Cox's Bazar districts.
In Cox's Bazar, the Communities Working Group is communicating information to the resident's of the world's largest refugee settlement.
